You only have 2 Grandmas?!?!
That was my shocking realization as a sweet little girl in kindergarten ... Most kids only had 2 grandmas and 2 grandpas. I somehow hit the jackpot and had way more. Now I'm not advocating for broken homes or belittling the tragedy that is divorce. I'm emphasizing that my family did a remarkable job loving me.
One of these beautiful souls was my stepdad Al's mom , Millie. When I see pictures of her as a young woman I can imagine traffic stopped over her beauty. She was just as beautiful inside.
You know how when people get older they feel the right to say anything that comes to mind ? This was not her ( well
to me at least) ... I sadly have vivid memories of other grandparents pointing out my weight or engaging me in talks of whichever parent wasn't there. But not Millie. She was always so kind and so encouraging. Helping me dress my dolls and spending hours getting ONE dolls hair to lay down ( who resembled Don King ) only to find that doll a week later looking like a wild thang. As an adult I loved looking through her costume jewelry with her. I wore one of her bracelets on my wedding day and s machine pin on my bouquet. It was my something borrowed that she insisted become mine. I could list so many memories and I'm glad I have such beautiful ones. She raised an incredible man in Al. When I'm praying about raising the boys I always think of her.
It's amazing to think my boys were born with 6 great grandparents. Between her health and my little germ machines they didn't see her as often as they should of. I wish they had more quality time with her . I'm lucky she passed her kind spirit , servants heart , love for Jesus and humor down to her son. We will miss her.
