If the chair could talk
Being a hairstylist is only half about doing hair , the other part is way more important. I get to be my " clients" ( I hate this word, I think of them as friends, sometimes family ) friend , therapist , family and entertainment. Today one of my dearest " clients " who will go unnamed to protect the innocent ..cough cough...Amy....mentioned to me that she was concerned because I hadn't blogged. Knowing me well she said " I know you're fine and busy living your newlywed life but I miss hearing about things "..... This touched me not just because she was excited to hear about my life but because I realized I missed her as well and couldn't wait to hear what had been going on in the last 4 weeks. This is hands down the best part of my career. The relationships I have built are priceless. I usually know with just one service what category a client will fall into. Some are immediately marked " Friend" ... Others I know will grow from friend to " Family "... Some sadly get put into the " Nice but clearly don't want to chat ".... Or " Pure Entertainment ".... Although that category usually comes with me constantly making sure a child isn't sitting close.
I am so lucky to have clients that I love so dearly. I love looking ahead on my books and seeing who is coming. It's not even a job at times.....not only do I get to work with a group of people I truly consider my family but I get to spend my day doing hair for people who started out as strangers and now are a part of my life !!
My clients have been there for me through some crazy years ...sending me notes of encouragement , praying for me , showering me with gifts for holidays or life's big moments. And while it would appear that they " need " me more considering I am the one providing the service .....they have no idea how much there love and support gets me through.
Even this blog was started because one of my favorites suggested it. The things we talk , laugh and cry about are secrets and I consider my chair a lot like Vegas ... What happens in the chair stays in the chair :).
