Use the wet wipes people
I am so blessed by watching my friends who have kids, especially those who've just become moms for the first time. Besides my older munch-kins I've added a Carter , Reese and a Matthew to the list of little ones "Jo Jo" can spoil. My dear friend Carri 's oldest Addison couldn't really say Laci so Carri tried having her say " Jo Jo" and it stuck , I couldn't think of a more appropriate nickname from my favorite little girl ! She entertains me weekly. This week she informed me that she ( who is 4 ) was going to remove one of the D's from her name because it would make it " less complicated " ! She is so smart , Carri has done an incredible job with her kids.She is such a good mom, kind, paitient, loving... I pray I can be like her when I have my own. If I can have a nice combo of all my friends skills I'm pretty sure I'll be good :)
When I watch my friends with their kids I can't help but marvel at the natural instinct God gives woman to be mothers. My friend Kristyn ( who I lovingly refer to as Salty because when we met she would of picked licking a salt block over ice cream any day. Thankfully pregnancy has converted her to a sugar freak like the rest of us ) is a prime example. Before having children a co-worker of ours handed her a baby to hold and after the baby threw up all over her i'm pretty sure she reconsidered having her own.She will hit me later for saying this but I was just glad she kept the baby in her arms, puke isn't exactly her favorite thing.I was blessed to witness the birth of her first son , Matthew on October 29th of this year. Of course I shed some tears at his arrival ( have you met me ? I cry when you say hi to me ...tenderhearted is what I like you call it because emotional makes me seem dramatic ! ha ) but I LOST it when I watched her handle her son for the first time. Instantly God instilled her instinct and it was the most amazing thing I've ever seen. Daily when I watch her with him ( yes daily because I can't seem to go 48 hours without seeing him ) I am amazed. Last night I saw her go from sweet mama bear to mean mama lion and I've never been so proud. Her wonderful husband turns 30 this month so she hosted a surprise party for him last night. She had debated about bringing the baby but figured everyone would want a peak so she had thought out a plan , she would leave him in his carseat, let everyone take a gander at him then my Matt and I ( I now have to say "my" matt since we have a big matt and a little matt lol) would take him home. Her pediatrician had been extremely clear to her about the danger of a newborn getting sick. He along with every resource you find had advised her to keep the baby clear of germs, snotty kids , hacking adults , etc. So imagine this...you go visit a new baby in the hospital whats the first thing you do before holding it ? Wash your hands right ?! So Salty brought wet wipes in the event someone gets aggressive and wants to hold him. All that needed to happen was the following ;
Step 1- Ask NEW mama to hold baby
Step 2- Wait for answer
Step 3- If she says " Yes just please use a wet wipe or wash your hands first " THEN DO IT
Well as you can guess from me writing about this non of the above happened. Woman just went clawing for him like he was a Coach purse on super duper clearance . But not after they had asked , or after washing their hands. We had barely screamed SURPRISE to Jeremy when he was out of his seat being tossed around . Now I KNOW no one had malicious intent or the wrong motive , they all love him and just wanted a snuggle, but come on people , respect a new mama. Now if it was me I would of probably cried , or snatched him back like a maniac but Salty did incredible. After she stopped shaking and the red had left her face she gracefully got her baby back and safe in her arms .
There is just something so beautiful about watching a friend become a mom....I am so proud of all of them . But Salty , last night you stood up and took charge of your family and I was so proud !
